Silk Knot Cufflinks
Silk knot cufflinks are a different form to the standard metal cufflinks that are used to
fasten dress shirts that have French cuffs.
Metal cufflinks are usually worn with formal attire at the office or in a business
setting. On the other hand, silk knot cufflinks are more for a casual look. Although some people consider them to
be not as stylish as metal cufflinks, there has been a resurgence of their use in casual wear. They are also
perfect for semi casual occasions where a man wants to look a bit different from the regular tie and
suite.
I used to always wear silver cufflinks with my suits and tie at work. I absolutely
loved them. There’s just something about them. But recently, I’ve discovered silk knot cufflinks, and it’s just
making my wardrobe even better. The great thing about silk knot cufflinks, is that you can wear them for any casual
occasion with a nice dress shirt that has French cuffs, perfect for an outing at the local cafe or jazz bar.
Apparently, I’m not the only one with this discovery, as there has a been a resurgence in Europe.
The key to wearing silk knot cufflinks is discretion in both the shirt and links. If you
are going casual, use ones that match your shirt colour. Whatever you do, don't bring out those god awful gold and
silver cufflinks aka “bling”, it just makes you look like you're trying too hard to impress. It pays to go for
quality dress jewelry without making it too obvious that it's expensive. And at all costs, avoid overly shiny
cufflinks from the likes of Hugo Boss.
One of the misconceptions that people have about this accessory, is because they are of a
lower cost compared to standard metal cufflinks, people perceive them as less quality and less fashionable. I
strongly disagree with this kind of perception, because it doesn't take into account how the silk knot cuff link is
worn. Like any other accessory it has to accentuate your outfit, whether it's formal or casual.
Silk knot cufflinks are great for adding a personal touch to ones style. For example,
coordinating colour of the links for special occasions like weddings, anniversaries, and business meetings. I
remember I got some red ones for my red striped dress shirt for the office Christmas party, it was
great.
Some tips to wearing these cufflinks with a tie, is to create a kind of harmony, where the
colours match. In addition, create your own type of style. For example, if you have certain colours that you love
because they have sentimental value to you, then it's great to have. Or if you happen to be especially patriotic,
you might want to get yourself colored cufflinks that represent your country's flag.
Also, I personally believe that every wardrobe needs a solid red, yellow, blue, and black.
With these basic colours, you can use them to dress up or down a white shirt and can pair them with a wide range of
solid and patterned shirts. Silk knot cufflinks are a versatile accessory to help you make a formal dress shirt
with french cuffs into a casual outfit, something that everyone should have in their wardrobe.
